The doctor
Two decades of advanced endoscopy.
A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1999), Dr. Francisco Luis Martín Carreras-Presas specialised in Gastroenterology in Portugal — at Castelo Branco District Hospital — and went on to practise at São João Hospital in Porto, one of the country's major university hospitals.
Since 2007 he has practised at HM Modelo (A Coruña), where he has built extensive experience in bariatric endoscopy — treating obesity endoscopically — and in advanced therapeutic endoscopy: techniques that remove early lesions and tumours of the digestive tract without open surgery, preserving the organ.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection
En-bloc removal of early and large lesions in the oesophagus, stomach and colon by dissecting the submucosal layer. It allows complete histological analysis and, in selected cases, may avoid surgery.
